This calm and comfortable city, where significant historical events used to happen daily, attracts with a unique charm, distinctive architecture and wonderful natural landscapes.

By historic standards, Kirovograd is a young city. Its birth year is considered to be 1754, when on Inhul River valley — near a Cossacks’ settlements — the Fort of St. Elizabeth was founded. From there, the Russian empress Catherine the Great planned to expand into the Northern Greater Black Sea area. The fortress expanded rapidly, attracting numerous migrants, and soon a fully-functional town grew around it. It was originally named Yelisavetgrad, and this name remained untill 1939, when it was renamed Kirovograd, honoring Kirov, a Soviet official.

Kirovograd’s outskirts also enjoy the company of unique landmarks. One of them is the Strategic Missile Forces Museum, located on the territory of former highly secretive missile base, not far from the town of Pervomaysk. The visitors can enjoy a fantastic collection of rocket engines, assisting automotive equipment, models of nuclear warheads, and missile complex R-12 (which was the “lead character” of the Cuban missile crisis in 1962). But the most captivating part of excursion around the museum is visiting the underground command post, from where missiles are fired.

Though Kirovograd does not have a rich historic and cultural heritage, it attracts visitors with its uncommon and diverse sights. It also gives you the possibility to “touch” the country’s past and to feel the amazing atmosphere it carries into the future!

About Ternopil

Ternopil is one of the largest cities of western Ukraine, located in its heart and having the status of an important trade center. It is a quiet, incredibly green city with a unique atmosphere, bright history and a plethora of interesting natural, historical and architectural sights.

The city’s main point of interest is considered to be the Old Castle, whose history started almost 500 years ago. It is the oldest surviving construction in Ternopil. Though the castle was a defensive bulwark, it could not escape the ravages of war: the fort was ruined several times, but was rebuilt again and again. In the 19th century, the castle was turned into a Russian classicist palace, and its remaining defenses were annihilated. Today, a stone wall with highly decorated gates surrounds the palace.

Amongst the architectural gems that give Ternopil its inimitable look, the Dominican Church deserves special mention. Built in the 18th century in the late Baroque style, its elegant towers rise in the historic city center. Near the church stands the Dominican monks’ living quarters. In Soviet times, the church was turned into a picture gallery; it is now active once again.

But even more ancient sacral buildings have survived in Ternopil. One of the old city’s most decorative landmarks is the Church of Exaltation of the Cross, built in the early 16th century on the territory of an ancient Kyivan Rus temple. At that time, it was often used to defend the city. It is not only the oldest building in Ternopil, but also the most unusual one, as the church has no domes. Recently, the church was restored and named the «Church on the Pond.” The ancient Church of Nativity, founded in 1602, is no less interesting.

But Ternopil’s calling card is its 300-hectare manmade lake, located in the heart of the city. The lake is as old as the city itself: it was created at the same time as the castle. Parks and gardens surround the lake, and it is a popular strolling place for citizens and guests alike.

Many distinct historic, architectural and cultural landmarks can also be found on Ternopil’s outskirts: almost every town and every village you will contains the ruins of some medieval castle, ancient church or monastery. The Kremenets Castle and the Pochayiv Lavra are the most popular destinations.

Ternopil is a very cozy and calm city. That is why so many travelers come here to not only to admire its sights, but to also feel the unusually warm and hospitable atmosphere of this amazing city.

About city

To most tourists, Ivano-Frankivsk is the gateway to the Ukrainian Carpathians. So it is often considered to be just a transit point on the way to one of the numerous health and ski resorts of Zakarpattia. But this charming city, with its parks, lush gardens, European-styled houses, and historical monuments, is worth staying in for more than just a night.

The heart of the city, customary for European towns, is the Market Square, surrounded by charming old houses. The square’s architectural ensemble is reminiscent of Lviv’s, which is why Ivano-Frankivsk is often called «Little Lviv.” In the center of the square stands the Town Hall — the only one in Ukraine that was built in the modernist style. The original town hall appeared here in the 17th century, but it was later rebuilt several times, settling on its current look in 1932. Today, the town hall houses a few pieces taken from the local history museum. If you choose to visit, you will find a collections of ancient furniture, weapons and books, as well as a tourist information center. One of the most famous fountains in Ivano-Frankivsk, the Egg Fountain, stands in front of the Town Hall.

The main gems of the city’s sacral architecture are concentrated near the Market Square. Built in the 18th century, in the Late Baroque style, the building of the former Armenian Church holds a special place. In Soviet times, the Museum of Religion and Atheism was inside. Now, it is a functional Orthodox cathedral called the Holy-Pokrovsky. The Church of Virgin Mary, the oldest building of Ivano-Frankivsk, stands nearby.

In addition to fascinating historic and architectural riches, Ivano-Frankivsk is known for its leisurely and harmonious life. This quality is pleasurable before heading off to conquer the snow-covered slopes of the Carpathians!

About University

Kyiv Polytechnic Institute (KPI) is one of the most prestigious institutions in Ukraine, and one of the largest technical institutes in Europe.

The university was primarily funded by The Association of Sugar Mill Owners who came from southwest Russia, and contributed a significant proportion of the 2.6 million rouble costs. When KPI opened there were just four colleges – Mechanics, Engineering, Agriculture and Chemistry.

With tens of thousands of students enrolled, KPI is the largest university in Ukraine today. There are 29 university colleges, specialising in both science and arts subjects, and most degrees are offered in a choice of Ukrainian, Russian or English language.

KPI is comprised of two main campuses. The first is situated in central Kiev and is centred around an open area known as The Knowledge Square. This campus also houses 9,000 students from outside the city and includes a 1,750-seater assembly hall and various sports facilities. The other campus is in the northern town of Slavutych, which is actually a purpose-built settlement for citizens who were evacuated following the 1986 Chernobyl disaster.

KPI was the first Ukrainian university to join the community of European universities and it has established cooperative agreements with institutions all over the world. One such agreement, with the University of Oregon in the US, includes a student-exchange program which allows students to study for a semester in a different country.

The university has a history of producing some very prominent figures, particularly in scientific fields. Evgeny Paton, the inventor of electrical welding, was among the first to graduate from KPI, while other alumni include Valeriya Hontaryeva, Chairman of the National Bank of Ukraine, and Sergei Korolev, a Soviet rocket engineer who played a central role in the Space Race of the 1950s and 60s.

About the Bologna Declaration

National Technical University of Ukraine ‘Kyiv Polytechnic Institute’ has replaced the existing study courses by structured, two-staged study programs according to «Bologna Model».

Bologna Process is a European initiative in order to bring the transparency and compatibility of the Higher Education across Europe. It defines three cycles of the Higher Education: Bachelor’s, Master’s, and Doctoral study.

The main objectives of Bologna Declaration are to increase the mobility and employability of European Higher Education graduates, thus ensuring competitiveness of the European Higher Education on the world scale. Fully respecting the richness of the European cultural diversity, and thus the diversity of the Higher Education systems, Bologna Declaration seeks to articulate the European Higher Education around two main cycles. An employability of the graduates shall be ensured already after the first cycle. The mobility of the graduates around the whole European Higher Education Area will be possible, if the recognition of the degrees earned will be ensured. This is supposed to be done through the increased transparency of the Higher Educational systems, and the trust to the Higher Educational systems that in turn will be based upon the quality assurance of the programs and institutions.

By issuing the Joint European Diploma Supplement to all graduates and using the credit system (ECTS or compatible) the transparency can be reached. While the European Credit Transfer System (ECTS) in the past was used only as a credit transfer system from one university to another, now it should become a credit accumulation system. Besides the credit accumulation in regular Higher Education programs, this system shall also provide the possibility to gain credits within an informal and non-formal education, thus taking on board the lifelong learning. The aim of Bologna Declaration is to increase the mobility of both students and staff across the European Higher Education Area. This goal will also require an identification and the solution of a numerous social issues. The joint programs and degrees offered by institutions from different countries will help to reach several goals of Bologna Declaration, and will therefore be further developed.

An important aspect of the student mobility, giving the possibility to move to the different country for further degree, is a system of credits used to recognize degrees and to accumulate credits. It is called the European Credit Transfer and Accumulation System (ECTS). ECTS is based on the principle that 60 credits measure the workload of the full-time student during one academic year. The student workload of the full-time study program in Europe is around 1500-1800 hours per year. So, one credit is equal to 25 to 30 working hours. The typical credit ranges are 180-240 units for the first (Bachelor’s) cycle, and 90-120 units for the second (Master’s) cycle; 60 or more units have to be earned during the second cycle. There is no credit range for the third cycle. All Master’s courses are assigned a certain value in terms of ECTS. The successful completion of the full calendar year (12 months) of the Master’s course accumulates 90 ECTS credits.

About city

With its scenic views, mild climate, and friendly people, Vancouver is known around the world as both a popular tourist attraction and one of the best places to live.

Vancouver is also one of the most ethnically and linguistically diverse cities in Canada with 52 percent of the population speaking a first language other than English.

Vancouver has hosted many international conferences and events, including the 2010 Winter Olympics and 2010 Winter Paralympics.

Located on the Burrard Peninsula, Vancouver lies between Burrard Inlet to the north and the Fraser River to the south. The Strait of Georgia, to the west, is shielded from the Pacific Ocean by Vancouver Island. The city has an area of 114 km2 (44 sq mi), including both flat and hilly ground, and is in the Pacific Time Zone (UTC−8) and the Pacific Maritime Ecozone. Until the city’s naming in 1885, «Vancouver» referred to Vancouver Island, and it remains a common misconception that the city is located on the island. The island and the city are both named after Royal Navy Captain George Vancouver (as is the city of Vancouver, Washington in the United States).

Vancouver has been ranked one of the most livable cities in the world for more than a decade. As of 2010, Vancouver has been ranked as having the 4th highest quality of living of any city on Earth. In contrast, according to Forbes, Vancouver had the 6th most overpriced real estate market in the world and was second-highest in North America after Los Angeles in 2007. Vancouver has also been ranked among Canada’s most expensive cities in which to live. Sales in February 2016 were 56.3% higher than the 10 year average for the month. Forbes has also ranked Vancouver as the tenth cleanest city in the world.

It fascinates visitors with history, climate, monuments. Arouses curiosity with its individualism. Intrigues with its multifaceted culture – the sequel of mutual influence of the Western and Eastern Europe.

Warsaw has been the capital of Poland for more than 400 years. Its story goes back to two siblings – Wars and Sawa (hence the Polish name: Warszawa) – who were nurtured by a mermaid. A mermaid with a sword and a shield is the symbol of the city. It has the population of nearly 2 million. Warsaw is a truly charming place.
