Bogomolets National Medical University

Science in NMU Bohomolets carried out by 82 departments and 2 research institutions. About University

Kiev national medical university is the main educational, research and therapeutic center of Ukraine, which celebrates 175 years in 2016 and impresses by the quantity of excellent doctors who graduated from this higher educational institution. Bogomolets National Medical University was created in 1841. Its first professor and the dean was a talented ophthalmologist Professor Karavaev, who was taught by the great surgeon Pirogov.

Kiev national medical university is proud first of all by a highly professional teaching staff, the most qualified among Ukrainian higher educational schools. Bogomolets National Medical University is really scientific. Pedagogical staff (1287 professionals) consists of 189 doctors and 710 candidates of sciences, 130 professors and 258 associate professors. Kiev national medical university is widely known among foreign countries due to achievements of outstanding scientists, whose top world level researches and developments are widely used in modern public health care. Each year BNMU receives more than 200 licenses on inventions, organizes around 50 scientific forums, issues more than 50 research monographs, 30 journals and digests of scientific works. Young specialists are involved in scientific work as well.

Kiev national medical university is a basic university in implementation and coordination of the reforming of the system of Ukrainian education up to European standards according to the Bologna Declaration. The appropriate changes in the teaching, studying processes and in the evaluation of knowledge have been introduced.

Bogomolets National Medical University annually prepares about 1,000 qualified specialists who work afterwards in Ukraine, Europe, USA, countries of South America, Asia, Middle East, Africa. Today the university organized studying of more than 12 000 students, masters, clinical residents, interns, postgraduate and doctoral students. Also there are around 1 200 international students studying different specializations. Employers in other countries are usually impressed by the level of preparation of graduates and eagerly cooperate with them.

Practical Training

The practical training is the important component in training a doctor and pharmacist.

The knowledge and skills, acquired during study at clinical and theoretical departments, are consolidated by the students during practical training, which is held in winter and in summer. The bases of practical training are over 200 most powerful medical preventive establishments in Kyiv. The practice is managed by more than 280 experienced teachers of the university, which have the higher medical category and employees from practical health care with the corresponding qualifications – at training bases.

The organization of practical training is the complex mechanism, which includes the work on selection of training bases, submission of the corresponding documents in order to execute the orders for Chief administration of health care in c. Kyiv, pharmaceutical unions and city sanitary epidemiological service about distribution of students and teachers among practical training bases, establishment of orders on practical training for the University, provision of teachers and students with the corresponding accompanying and methodical materials, taking the differentiated credit on practical training, liquidation of failed exams if a student did not pass through the whole practical training or its certain cycles due to valid reason.

It is necessary to organize and to carry out the medical examinations of students and bacteriological examination for students to receive the access to practical training at medical establishments with special antiepidemic mode (maternity hospitals and departments, surgical hospitals).

The students-foreigners, representatives of fifty seven countries, also pass through practical training. The experienced teachers, who fluently speak English and know the medical terminology in English, are assigned to manage the practical training of the students with English speaking study form.

V. N. Karazin Kharkiv National University

The University boasts its wide international recognition as one of the initiators of signing the Magna Charta Universitatum (Bologna, 1998), a co-founder of the Eurasian Universities Association. V.N. Karazin Kharkiv National University is one of the oldest universities in Eastern Europe. It was founded in November 1804, on the initiative of the prominent educator V.N. Karazin and in accordance with the charter of Tsar Alexander I.

The title of Honorary Doctor of Kharkiv University was conferred on the first President of Ukraine Mykhailo Hrushevskyi.

Kharkiv University is associated with the first Ukrainian newspapers and journals and the first scientific societies.

Since its foundation, the University has graduated over 130,000 students. The names of the University graduates are commemorated in geographical names, names of space objects, plants and minerals, laws and formulae. About city

Kharkiv is a city situated in the north-eastern part of Ukraine. It is the second largest city after Kiev and the first capital of the country. According to some historical documents, the city was founded in 1654, but the origin of it’s name is still a mystery. Kharkiv is the second largest in Ukraine on scientific and educational potential. The city has 13 national universities and numerous professional, technical and private higher education institutions, offering its students a wide range of disciplines.

Kharkiv has good infrastructure. It has an extremely functional/practical underground transit system and a relatively well-connected bus network. The inhabitants are friendly and passionate. In addition, the hospitality towards foreigners is very warm – probably owing to it’s long-standing status as an educational town.

There are many famous institutes of higher education in Kharkiv; Kharkiv National University of Radio Electronics has a significant place in the system of Ukrainian higher education.

The city has its own charm – narrow streets with old buildings of different architectural styles and small yards in the city down town, huge and impressive main square, majestic cathedrals and small churches, subway many stations of which can be considered as a separate work of art.
